Think your town is the best outside town in the States, we are here to tell you that Asheville is hard to beat.  Asheville ranked as “Best Southern Town” in Outside Magazines “Best Towns In America” story. In each region of the country, the magazine selected the best town with a population of fewer than 100,000 people and the best city with a population of more than 100,000 people. Winners are all “smart, progressive burgs with gorgeous wilderness playgrounds,”places that “have realistic housing and job markets,” according to the magazine. (August 2007). Also according to Outside Magazine, Asheville was also rated as the Number 1 Paddling Town in American in 2006. 

In additional the accolades from the outdoors community, Asheville has joined the likes of Tokyo and Zurich as a must-see destination for world travelers, at least according to Frommer's, publisher of a series of highly acclaimed travel guides.  The company recently announced its top 12 world travel destinations for 2007. As the only destination in the Southeast, Asheville is recognized for its thriving arts and culture.
